Separately Contracted Employment History periods…….over last ten years

Roger Parkin Project Architect (RPPA) – Principal of Practice
May – Oct 2012
Contracted as Site Architect for Lead Consultant (nra) on BHP accommodation complex “Landing Resort”, Port Hedland, in northern W.A.

RPPA was contracted under the umbrella of the lead consultants (project leaders), Noel Robinson Architects Brisbane, during construction of this modulated 500 room hotel complex located adjacent to Port Hedland International Airport, WA.
Following start-up time in the Brisbane office then living on site and sharing the site office with the project’s building contractors, RPPA’s duties included the overseeing and supervision of progressive building stages, using previous familiarity and expertise in the handling of imported and preconstructed suites; administration and chairing of site meetings, and preparation of subsequent minutes for the client and all team members present at weekly Project Design Meetings

.The above process provided a seamless solution to builder’s issues and site problems arising in this challenging, remote location, and could thus be dealt with efficiently by RPPA, alleviating the need to involve team member head offices which were spread over four capital cities/states.
Entire project halted October 2012 due to industrial issues.

1978 – Present

This practice (my private practice) has been commissioned by numerous clients since commencement in 1978 in Brisbane, through to the present day.

From 1982 – 1986 RPPA, by formal arrangement, my entire office of four architects worked exclusively for the late Keith Williams on the Sea World Theme Park and Hamilton Island projects and thereafter until 2009, using conventional fee agreements.

Since 1989, after completion of the Toucan Club at Savoir Faire, Milton, Brisbane, the practice was based at Savoir Faire Tower in that complex until 2007 and has moved recently to Clayfield.

During the design and development of Hamilton Island in the 1980’s our Architects office moved to the Sea World Theme Park site at Main Beach, where under the direction of Mr John Menzies (CEO) and Keith Williams we also worked for four years on the expansion and completion of Sea World Theme Park, until ready to be sold. Contact has been kept up with Mr Menzies who moved on after this sale to administrate at Movie World, Wet & Wild and the R M Williams Outback Spectacular complex.

Staff and CAD technicians have been employed either full time or via contract, depending on commercial needs.

Prior to starting private practice Roger Parkin had continuous employment in 4 Architectural firms in Brisbane, concluding at William Job and Associates as a Senior Staff Architect, at which his final project was the completed Kallangar Hotel complex in Pine Shire, north of Brisbane.
